Fem Erkaya, LMHC
Licensed Mental Health Counselor Psychotherapist
I am a licensed therapist (LMHC) based in Brooklyn, providing individual therapy and relationship therapy in English and Turkish to adults of all cultures and backgrounds residing in New York State. My theoretical approach is lies heavily on psychoanalytic thought (“talk therapy”), though I believe in collaboratively tailoring the best form of therapy with my clients depending on their unique needs and expectations.
I hold an MA in Mental Health Counseling, along with advanced certifications in Intensive Trauma Studies and a Certificate in Clinical Applications of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. I have also pursued post-graduate training in Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Therapies, which deepens my approach to exploring the underlying patterns and complex experiences of my clients.
As an internationally trained clinician, I have extensive experience in working with multicultural populations. Prior to establishing my private practice, my therapeutic work mainly centered around providing emotional support to survivors of severe trauma as well as immigrants and asylum seekers in Turkey, with particular focus on symptom reduction and eventual readjustment to daily life. Though I currently work with a wide range of populations and clinical issues including anxiety and depression, I specialize in multicultural struggles, life transitions, relationship issues (family, romantic, etc.), emotional expression, and trauma.
